            Designer Biology 2021 - Banner
After two successful meetings in Vienna and Newcastle, the online Designer Biology'21 conference, organized by the Bioengineering and Bioprocessing and Biobased Materials division of EFB, was held in September.
80 participants joined from 20 countries from all over the world. The focus of the meeting “From proteins and cells to scaffolds & materials” was very well reflected in 27 oral presentations and 20 lightening talks. The conference had 50% female speakers and featured talks by early career researchers as well as established scientists, leaders in their respective fields.
The meeting was bookended with inspiring talks from invited keynote speakers and covered topics from enzyme engineering to the effect of spatial organisation on the function of synthetic biological circuits. All in all, the conference was well received and we all look forward to the next event, which will take place in Freiburg, Germany, in 2023.
